Fun with Phonics
Fun With Phonics is a BBC (CBeebies) literacy series, teaching children to read using the synthetic phonics method. I was commissioned to create a series of 42 animated letters to humorously illustrate the sound that each letter makes.
I needed to create characters without losing sight of the letter or grapheme’s shape. Sometimes two letters (digraphs) needed to be combined as one character. I decided to use a sound track made solely from each letter’s phonetic sound. For this series I worked with animator Ashley Davison.
